Adega da Fitapreta is a fusion of old and new, tradition and boldness. In an area of the Morgado da Oliveira Palace, what is believed to be the oldest wine cellar in Évora was discovered.
Volumetrically, the new Fitapreta wine cellar building imitates the proportions of the original Palace building, without copying its dimensions, creating its own language, providing unity and harmony without trying to overshadow the Palace. Respecting the existing silhouette, the new wine cellar remains low like the nature that surrounds it. It is inspired by the generous, high windows, the waters of the roofs, the stereotomy of the stonework, the wide entrances on the ground floor, and the straight lines of the designs on the camouflage skin that covers it.
Cork was chosen as the covering material because it is a sustainable, noble material, abundant in the Alentejo, it conveys the essence of wine and is related to the Palace.
Symbolically, and taking advantage of the historical and current name of the Palace, olive trees were planted on the main access road.
In the Fitapreta project, just like the wines that combine ancestry and innovation, the winery also invites dialogue between a medieval palace and contemporary architecture.
