In 1519, King Manuel I granted Vasco da Gama the title of Count of Vidigueira. It was in the tranquility of this beautiful Alentejo town, among fields, cork oaks, olive trees and vineyards, that the man who discovered the sea route to India lived happily with his family for a few years.
The Herdade do Sobroso is part of this unique landscape, filled with historical and heritage reminiscences, now strongly marked by its proximity to the largest artificial lake in Europe, the Alqueva Dam.
