Chardonnay Meerdael is the pioneer of Belgian sparkling wine. In 1994, Paul and An Vleminckx-Lefever planted 60,000 Chardonnay vines. Their idea was to produce a Blanc de Blancs sparkling wine, a first in Belgium.
The winemaking process is carried out according to the "Méthode Traditionnelle." This method is used in the Champagne region and involves a secondary fermentation in the bottle.
Chardonnay Meerdael has a pale yellow, sometimes straw-yellow, color. The aroma is subtle. The taste reveals a delicate aroma of spring blossom and ripe fruit. The finish is pleasant. This sparkling wine is ideal as an aperitif or with seafood. The ideal serving temperature is 6 degrees Celsius.
In 2018, their son, Laurens, joined the business. The Chardonnay Meerdael estate has become an established name in the Belgian and international wine world. In 2009, he was the first Belgian to win the "Grande Médaille d'Or" at the prestigious "Concours Mondial De Bruxelles". In 2020, we received the "Streekproduct.be" label from "Vlam".
