In 2013, Eric Geyssens and his wife Linda planted their first vines. The Dappersveld Wine Estate in Elingen was born. In 2016, the Dehandschutter family also took their first steps in their own vineyard. Sam Dehandschutter, the son of a close-knit hospitality family, became the estate's winemaker.
By joining forces, the two families decided to merge these projects, creating the Dappersveld-Woestijn Wine Estate, located in the beautiful, rolling Pajottenland region southwest of Brussels. Eric and Sam then made their first wines together, from the 2017 to 2021 vintages. In 2022, Eric decided to end his winemaking career. This prompted the Dehandschutter family to move the winery from Dappersveld (Elingen) to Gooik in 2024.
With this new location, a new name was also chosen: Bruut Winery. Why this name change? The project's direction was already adjusted in 2019 with the decision to dedicate the vast majority of its production to sparkling wine. The appropriate name BRUUT was chosen for this.
