Sobre el celler

Bodegas Monje, with its views of El Teide, sits proudly in the rolling countryside of La Hollera, overlooking the municipality of El Sauzal in the north of Tenerife. Since 1750, the Monje family have been producing wine and now, the fifth generation are at the helm. Oak barrels and modern maceration systems coexist creating the special character and flavour of the Monje red, white and rosé wines, making them an essential accompaniment to Canarian cuisine.

The sounds and smells of the winery have been part of my life ever since I was a child. The grape harvest, the juice-infused air, racking, the barrels, the wines, the ploughed ground and vine pruning are part of that atmosphere of wine that has always dominated the everyday language spoken at home. It is now my turn today to uphold the family tradition. I am the fifth generation of Monjes whose vocation lies in the fascinating world of wine.
